High School News:

HS Students and Staff: Please note that Chapel will be held in the Sanctuary today.

Seniors, we have 42 seniors who have completed the 120 service hours that are needed for graduation.  Congratulations to you!  There are 19 seniors who have not met that requirement.  Receive this friendly reminder and realize that the 120 hours are a requirement for graduation.  This is a fairly standard requirement for many excellent high schools and how much more so should it be a requirement for CCA as we seek to imitate Christ who served others.  Get your hours done and turn them in to the Guidance office.

Challenger explodes

At 11:38 a.m. EST, on January 28, 1986, the space shuttle Challenger lifts off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and Christa McAuliffe is on her way to becoming the first ordinary U.S. civilian to travel into space. McAuliffe, a 37-year-old high school social studies teacher from New Hampshire, won a competition that earned her a place among the seven-member crew of the Challenger. She underwent months of shuttle training but then, beginning January 23, was forced to wait six long days as the Challenger's launch countdown was repeatedly delayed because of weather and technical problems. Finally, on January 28, the shuttle lifted off.

Seventy-three seconds later, hundreds on the ground, including Christa's family, stared in disbelief as the shuttle exploded in a forking plume of smoke and fire. Millions more watched the wrenching tragedy unfold on live television. There were no survivors.

On This Day in History

January 27, 1756
Birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, extraordinary Austrian composer, at Salzburg.  A musical prodigy from age four, he remained a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church.  Prolonged overwork undermined his health and led to his premature death at 36.  But he left some 600 music compositions.  The church especially prizes the hymn tunes ARIEL ("O Could I Speak the Matchless Worth") and ELLESDIE ("Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken").

The Word of God for the Day

Prov 2:1-6
My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.  For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

The Official CCA Bad Joke of the Day

The woman's husband had been slipping in and out of a coma for several months, yet she had stayed by his bedside every single day. One evening, he came to and motioned her to come nearer. As she sat by him, he whispered, eyes full of tears, "you know what? You've been with me through all the bad times. When I got fired, you were there to support me. When my business failed, you stood by me. When I got shot, you were by my side. When we lost the house, you were there. When my health started failing, you never left me. You know what?"

"What Dear?" she gently asked her heart filled with warmth.

"You're really bad luck."
