On This Day in History
October 18- On this day in 1867, the U.S. formally takes possession of Alaska after purchasing the territory from Russia for $7.2 million, or less than two cents an acre. The Alaska purchase comprised 586,412 square miles, about twice the size of Texas, and was championed by William Henry Seward, the enthusiastically expansionist secretary of state under President Andrew Johnson.
The verse of the day comes from Kalley Hernandez:
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
The Official CCA Bad Joke of the Day
What did the bee say to his wife? Hi Honey!
Why did the bee have sticky hair? Because he used his honeycomb!
