On This Day in History

1948 - Religious education within the public schools was declared a violation of the First Amendment by the U.S. Supreme Court. In particular, the court ruled that the practice of "release time"-a scheduling arrangement whereby public school children could, with parental consent, receive religious instruction during school hours, and in school buildings-with a violation of the separation of church and state.

1936 - Daytona Beach, Florida, staged its first race strictly for stock cars on a combination beach and public roadway course. The race is remembered as the impetus for today's NASCAR.

The Word of God for the Day

Isaiah 26:3    You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.

The Official CCA Bad Joke of the Day

Maurice was nervously conversing with the IRS auditor who had come to review his tax returns.
The auditor exclaimed, "Maurice, it is a great privilege to be allowed to live and work in the USA. As a citizen you have an obligation to pay taxes, and we expect you to pay them with a smile." "Wooh, what a relief," replied Maurice.  "I thought you expected me to pay with a check!"
